Baby foods are made from condensed fruits and vegetables, so if they are not organic, the high concentration of fruits and vegetables can have a higher concentration of pesticide residue. This matters because babies are more vulnerable to pesticides. Their organs and nervous system are at a crucial stage of development. Babies may also absorb pesticides more easily and break them down less easily.
My Organic Baby introduced the first line of complete baby foods in Canada that are certified Organic – free of pesticides, herbicides, preservatives and artificial flavours and colours. To be certified as an organic product, 95 per cent of the product’s ingredients must be certified organic meaning that it has been grown and processed without the use of genetic engineering, synthetic or artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, growth regulators, antibiotics, preservatives, dyes, additives, chemical coatings or irradiation. In addition, farmers must reapply each year for certification and their farms must be inspected by an independent, third-party inspector. My Organic Baby products are certified by Quality Assurance International (QAI) as well as by USDA NOP and CAAQ.
